3 Tips to Avoid "Diet Skin" and Keep Your Healthy, Glowing Complexion

Lisa Cohen Lee

diet skin ruins your complexion

Sure, you've been coasting on your diet, losing a couple of lbs. a week . But what you don’t know is that new slender figure may be costing you your youthful, bright complexion. With less fat that keeps your face looking glowy and full, your skin is dehydrated, lacks color, and looks dull (from a sluggish cell turnover). How do you reverse that dreaded diet skin? Nutrients! Feeding your face the proper nutrition—as in diet-friendly fruits and veggies—as well as applying a mineral-pumped skin cream, can bring it back to the lustrous look you had pre-weight loss. So read on, and make your face look as gorgeous as the rest of your body.

Eat “Good” Fats:

Cutting back calories means you've decreased your fat intake. Fat, however, is crucial to keeping your skin glowing. Of course, saturated fats are still a no-no, but good fats, like those found in nuts, avocado and salmon, are a definitive yes, and should be incorporated into your diet to maintain a healthy look.

Take Your Vitamins:

Make sure your menu includes plenty of veggie and fruits high in antioxidants, like kale, blueberries, carrots and apples, all of which can aid in repairing damaged cells and prevent diet skin. You should also look at adding supplements, like vitamins C and E, both of which fight damaging free radicals and keep moisture levels intact.

Revamp You Skincare:

Because your skin is losing lipids and feels drier, swapping out a light lotion for a cream is a must. Opt for one packed with antioxidants like green tea or grape stem cells, which can counteract that parched look and strengthen fragile skin. You may also want to use an AHA serum a few times a week ; the gentle exfoliating ingredients encourage cell turnover, clear dead skin from your pores and overall, make you look glowy and luminous.
